Learn from a Professionally Qualified Seascape Photographer...

These workshops will be over a total duration of 2 nights & 3 days

Event is a chance to learn from Matt Montano; a nationally published, award nominated, multi-body accredited Professional Landscape Photographer.

For the duration of this 2 day this workshop you will be based at the renowned Lands End Hotel along the Penwith Peninsula.

You will have the chance to photograph some of the most dramatic scenery to be found anywhere in the world, for the purposes of coastal seascapes.

The focus and purpose of the workshop itself will be on shooting long exposures up to around 2 to 3 minutes and specifically in Monochrome (black and white). 

Matt has professional photographers insurance and has Public Liability Insurance cover for up to £5 million – so please be reassured; you are in safe hands!

Workshop will provide you with all the advice & tuition needed to create stunning long exposure monochrome seascape images of Cornwall.

Daytime schedule will be split in to 2 components; Daytime shooting (approximately 9am to 3pm) and evening image processing ( 6pm to 8pm)

Workshop will be run by Matt himself. The price for the course is £500 per person and is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

You must bring your own Digital SLR Camera, Lens, Tripod & Cable Release…

These will be Formatt Hitech Firecrest Filters 100mm Series including a Polarise Filter with the 105mm Adapter Ring..

Such filters provide the highest quality image without leaving a colour cast..

During this Workshop you will develop the following skills for shooting monochrome seascapes with a Digital SLR:

advanced techniques for producing magazine quality images

composition (rule of thirds, foreground elements, perspective/ vanishing points)

focusing (hyperfocal, lens distance scales)

long exposures for seascapes (motion blur of water & cloud and specific considerations for these)

shutters speed variations and how different speed provide varying levels of aesthetic and how to get the effect you are seeking.

use of a shutter release & filters to achieve long exposure effects and calculations to achieve the correct combinations

mood & atmosphere; how to integrate much under rated elements to your long exposures..

special considerations for long exposures in monochrome (e.g. use of RGB historgram on LCD screen

Highlights & Shadows – how to manage these and use them to your benefit for the power of a long exposure image, with a real focus on the highlights of motion blur…

use of Hitech Formatt 100mm Filter System including 105mm Polariser

Firecrest Resin Filters – how these differ from other brands and why they are vital for monochrome photography…

Moderate fitness levels will be required. Coastal path ascent & descents will be undertaken on loose surfaces.

Please ensure you bring adequate footwear for the 2 days. I would recommend a solid hiking boot with a firm sole from a well know high street brand..

Participants must have a basic understanding of manual camera settings and know how to change Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO.

Tripod & Head

Warm Outdoor Clothes & Flask for a Hot Drink

Footwear suitable for rugged terrain

A Chair (if you don’t fancy standing for 3-4 hours at a time!!)

Image Processing sessions will be undertaken after dinner during the evening.

The sessions will be 2-3 hours in length as a lot of ground is covered during the limited time we all have together.

This is a chance to review the work you have produced during the day and really go over the merits of your work with a fine tooth-comb…

The Basics of RAW File management in Photoshop & Lightroom will suffice as a good primer on the first day…

This is done before diving in to Photoshop & Image Management in depth…

RAW file processing in Photoshop – the basics, and then some…

Advanced Editing techniques – using Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop – how to really extract the maximum data potential from your image…

Converting to Monochrome – Introducing the RGB Mix to a monochrome conversion and what this means…

Knowing your weapon of choice for printing & understanding how fine adjustments in photoshop will impact the look of the final print.
